Richard Powers with Angela Amarillas teach Intermediate waltz classes at 7pm and 8pm in the large upstairs room.
7pm - Role Reversal in Cross-Step Waltz. There's more than an hour of techniques and partnering involved in role reversal but Richard and Angela will be especially concise so that you can be happily dancing from the other side in only one class.
8pm - Hambo. The last time Richard taught Hambo at Friday Night Waltz was March, 2003 to a very large crowd! Been a long time he taught it - time to fix that! Hambo features a waltz-pivot that uses the same principle as the Wankel engine. Millions of dancers worldwide dance Hambo, so once you learn it here, you'll be able to dance it anywhere.
Tom Hill teaches an introductory waltz class from 7 to 9 pm in the downstairs room. To get the most from this class, try to start at 7pm. Excellent first time class.
Richard Powers is our DJ tonight. Waltz and polka music from 9pm to midnight.
The Academy of Danse Libre is performing tonight. They are the nation's premier vintage dance performance group. Catch them at their biennial dance performance May 31st and June 1st. . Always a treat! a Must Go event. From their website, 'The Academy of Danse Libre is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the lively exhibition of 19th and early 20th century social dances. We aspire to create a vivid picture of the mayhem and joyful passion of the Victorian ballroom, in the spirit of our namesakes."
Danse Libre’s next biennial spring dance concert will be held Thursday May 31 and Friday June 1, 2007. In this year’s show, "The Da Vintage Code, intrepid dancers embark on a journey through vintage eras on a quest for the holy grail of dance. Pursuit of the cherished chalice becomes a journey through time and a return to the roots of the art. As the daring dancers wend their way through the mazurkas of the Victorian era, the one-steps of the Ragtime period, the Charlestons of the 1920s, and the tangos of the 1930s, they learn that there is more than just footwork at the heart of dance". Tickets
$11 for both the classes and the dance. $8 for just the dance. No partner necessary. All Ages. Casual comfortable attire

Hambo
Thu, May 3, 2007 - 7:01 PMYay! I learned to Hambo years ago at Lark and have completely forgotten how. It's totally fun and I can't wait to learn again. They often do Hambos at Contra Dances and I hate sitting them out.
