Lyric Theatre announces auditions for

Rodgers & Hammerstein's

Cinderella

A Lyric Theatre Mainstage Production

Fully staged with orchestra

Audition dates

Tuesday, June 23 ● Wednesday, June 24 ● Monday, June 29

7:00 - 10:00 pm

Callbacks: Wednesday, July 1 beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Rehearsals will begin in early August.

Performances at the Montgomery Theater in Downtown San Jose: October 3-11, 2009
possible show Wed, October 7, 9:30 am (for San Jose schoolchildren)

Non-AEA. All roles are open. No pay.

Auditions and rehearsals will be held at the Lyric Theatre Rehearsal Facility, 430 Martin Ave., Santa Clara (just off De La Cruz Blvd.) Callback location is TBA.

Please fill out our online form at www.lyrictheatre.org/support/auditions (preferred method) or call 408-986-9090 and leave a message to schedule an appointment. Please allow 48 hours for a response. Arrive early for your appointment to fill out our paperwork. Bring a conflict calendar to the audition.

Prepare a piece to demonstrate your vocal range and skill. Bring music in your own key for the accompanist. An accompanist will be provided; unaccompanied auditions are not allowed. Songs from Cinderella are okay, however songs from other shows are strongly encouraged.

Roles:

Cinderella: Mezzo soprano (B3 to D5), 18-25, Young, sweet, optimistic, generous. Needs to be able to dance.

King: Baritone (B2 to F4), 40-65 (Comic), A little frumpy, very "down Home", a bit of a child.

Queen: Mezzo soprano (B3 to D5), 40-65, loves a good party. Knows what is owed to her position. Elegant but a bit motherly.

Stepmother: Mezzo soprano (D4 to D5), 40-65 (Comic), Imperious, "Nouveau Riche" Has a faded beauty that she is holding on to, but after a bit one doesn't want to be around her.

Portia: Mezzo soprano (C4 to D5), 20-30 (Comic), not too bright. Likes to boss Cinderella—because it makes her feel superior.

Joy: Mezzo soprano (C4 to D5), 20-30 (Comic), Unlike her name she is very solemn, sad all the time.

Prince Charming: Baritone (C#3 to E4), 20-30, every girl's dream of a Prince: handsome, charming — well, you get the picture. Needs to be able to dance.

Fairy Godmother: Mezzo soprano (D4 to D5), Ageless. She is a sensible, no nonsense type, with a quirky sense of humor.

Herald: Tenor (F3 to F#4), Very formal and proper—but easily side tracked.

Chef and Steward: Baritones (C3 to D4 and C3 to C4), A Mutt and Jeff, Laurel and Hardy team. Must be able to dance.

Townspeople (also additional chefs, maids, etc): All Voice Types and a variety of types and ages. All of the townspeople will have unique characters and business. Some must be able to dance.

If you would like to participate in the production staff or crew, please let us know by phone or email. Lyric Theatre is a nonprofit community theater organization. Cast members will be expected to contribute time to the mounting of the production (sets, costumes, etc.) in addition to rehearsal and performance time.
