The Wednesday Night Hop dance in Sunnyvale will be hosting the band Hot Club of San Francisco on November 5, featuring Django Reinhardt / Jazz Manouche-style swing music and waltzes.
Richard Powers is scheduled to teach "Swaltz" (which I believe means dance survival skills for dancing to this style of music, covering both swing and waltz); that will be 7:00 - 8:00 PM. Other instructors are teaching the level-1 Lindy hop lesson 8:00 - 9:00 PM. The band performs 9:00 - midnight.
This should be excellent, as HCSF is a solid band that hardly ever plays at dances any more. I've attended many of their concerts, though, and consistently find that people who have never heard this type of music end up very enthusiastic about the genre. This event is especially unusual for having a waltz lesson beforehand.
